ABOUT US

Established in 2007, Atelier 17 Ltd is an award winning Practice located within the Wiltshire town of Bradford On Avon. The Practice has established its own identity and has a growing project and client base working on a variety of projects in the residential, community and commercial sectors.

The Practice believes that fundamental to the success of any project is an understanding and sensitivity to site, context, brief and budget, then exploiting the opportunities which these offer. Working closely with clients to help manage and deliver their goals and aspirations, the practice pursues a broad contemporary approach to architecture and uses materials and forms to sympathetically contextualise the designs which arise. This balance, irrespective of style, provides a clear architectural aesthetic to our projects, albeit each project is considered and developed as a bespoke design solution.

Nigel Bedford is the sole director of Atelier 17 Ltd. Having studied architecture at the University of Bath between 1994 – 2000, he was elected into the RIBA in 2001. After leaving University he joined a local Bath practice, then became an associate in 2006 before leaving in 2007 to set up Atelier 17 Ltd. At his time in previous practice, he worked on a wide cross section of projects ranging from a £130,000 art centre to a £45m regeneration scheme in central Swindon.

Most recently Nigel graduated with First Class Honours having studied for an MSc Conservation of Historic Buildings at the University of Bath

Nigel also teaches at the University of Bath and has been a Teaching Fellow since 2010. He lectures in design, construction and contemporary architecture. He has also sat on the judging panel for Regional RIBA Awards and was a Wessex RIBA Regional Councillor.
